Cures For Bad Breath

Bad Breath is an affliction that seldom generates sympathy even from love ones and close associates. Unlikely other ailments, the sufferer is usually chastised and shunned. I only wish I can go back in time and pass this information to Clark Gable when he was filming Gone With The Wind.

Cures For Bad Breath,halitosis

SPECIAL NOTES: To declare that a certain medicine is effective, it MUST meet this criterion – Found to be significantly more effective than placebo in a DOUBLE BLIND study staffed/funded by an UNBIASED organization. The “cure” that I am describing below has NOT met this criterion. Therefore, its efficacy must be deemed UNPROVEN.

The “cure” is a Chinese herbal medicine. It was published in an evening newspaper in Hong Kong. (Image: A hand copy of the original formula). I read about it and tried it when I was 15 years old. I recommended it to a West European woman when she was about 22 years old as well as to several Asian ESL students (aged 20 – 45 years) in 2003. Their bad breath has been completely eliminated. To date, the bad breath has not recurred in any one of them (or me). Please note that I do not have any training in Alternative Medicine. And, therefore, I do not know with certainty how, why or how well it works.

Sniffing Test:
- Breathe out into an 8-ounce measuring cup and sniff your exhaled breath.
- If it is not revolting, you do not have halitosis.
- If it is, repeat the test and memorize how strong the odour is.

The ingredients:
- Bamboo leaves (dried) – 15
- Roasted oyster shells (crushed) – 1 1/2 ounces
- Reed stem (dried) – 5 inches.
There are several varieties of bamboo leaves. The ones that are about 9 – 12 inches long is the kind of choice. These may be substituted with smaller leaves.
Roasted oyster shells (crushed) are in the form of a medley of a gray powder and small irregular pieces. If the product you are presented with is a white powder, that’s NOT suitable.
Reed stem is called “Lo Gun” in Cantonese (“Lo” is pronounced as “low” at a VERY low pitch). A dried stem of the common reed is hollow, straw colour and about 1/2 inch in diameter. The stems are usually sold as short pieces of 1 to 2 1/2 inches in length.
These ingredients can be purchased from any Chinese herbal store. Or, you can easily gather and dry or roast them yourself.

Methodology:
Boil the ingredients with 4 bowls of water until 1 bowl is left. Cool, strain and drink the concoction. It tastes like strong green tea with a little milk of magnesia mixed in it. Repeat the sniffing test the next morning. If there is no improvement, stop. If there is improvement but not complete elimination, prepare and drink another bowl. If it eliminates your bad breath completely, tell a friend about this article on Buzzle.com.

How To Eliminate Bad Breath

Want to know a cure for bad breath? Bad breath is not only a health problem, but a social one as well. It is an embarrassment for anyone to have. But How To Eliminate Bad Breathshould you be suffering from bad breath, rest assured that there are cures for bad breath that are safe, natural, and effective. Specific cures for bad breath depend on the cause.

What causes bad breath?

Bad breath is usually caused by bacteria in the mouth, particularly on the surface of the tongue. It can be caused by poor dental hygiene, mouth infections, dryness of the mouth, stress, and external factors like cigarettes, smoke and coffee, among others. Less common causes of bad breath are stomach and intestinal problems, respiratory tract infections, and major body illnesses like diabetes and liver diseases.

If you feel you have bad breath, your doctor or dentist may help you identify the cause. This is helpful especially if you have halitosis, or chronic bad breath.

How to cure bad breath

Conventional cures for bad breath are antiseptic mouthwashes and medications. However, some of the best remedies for bad breath can be found in nature or in your home.

Cure For Bad Breath # 1: Mint oil is in!
You see mint in almost every breath-freshening product but the most effective and potent of all to use is arguably the peppermint oil – yes, that essential oil usually used for aromatherapy. A drop of that pure essential oil on the tongue can freshen your breath quickly and naturally.

Also helpful is tea tree oil, a powerful antiseptic normally recommended for skin problems. As this oil is quite strong, just drop a very small amount on your toothbrush and brush your teeth with it.

Cure For Bad Breath # 2: Spice is nice. Seeds, too!
While some spices like pepper can make your mouth hot (and for some, smell unpleasant), a few like cloves actually have an antiseptic effect on the mouth and are a good remedy for bad breath. You can chew on cloves or grind them and prepare them as tea.

The seeds normally used as condiments like fennel and anise seeds are good breath sweeteners. Anise, in particular, has curative properties and kills odor-causing bacteria. Since these seeds are dry and can keep for quite some time, they are convenient to carry around with you. Simply chew on them after a meal.

Cure For Bad Breath # 3: Cool off with a lemon.
Not only is lemon good for lemonade and as a household cleaning agent, it is great natural cure for bad breath as well! Suck on a slice of lemon and feel your breath cleansed and freshened instantly.

Halitosis Bad Breath

Halitosis, oral malodor (scientific term), breath odor, foul breath, fetor oris, fetor ex ore, or most commonly bad breath are terms used to describe noticeably unpleasant odors exhaled in breathing – whether the smell is from Halitosis Bad Breath, fixing bad breathan oral source or not.

Obviously, brushing your teeth after your night’s sleep won’t help remove the heavy film called “plaque” that builds up on the tongue. It’s a mixture of active bacteria and a chemical cocktail of odor-causing residues that they produce. The tongue’s shape and surface are ideal for happily hiding these bacteria.

Certain foods, health conditions and habits are among the causes of bad breath. In many cases, you can improve bad breath with proper dental hygiene.

If simple self-care techniques don’t solve the problem, you may want to see your dentist or doctor to rule

What Causes Bad Breath?

Here are three common causes of bad breath:

* foods and drinks, such as garlic, onions, cheese, orange juice, and soda
* poor dental hygiene (say: hi-jeen), meaning you don’t brush and floss as you should
* smoking and other tobacco use
* Severe dieting. Dieters may develop unpleasant “fruity” breath from ketoacidosis, the breakdown of chemicals during fasting.

Symptoms Commonly Experienced by Halitosis Sufferers

A white or Yellow Film on the Tongue
Dry Mouth
Bitter, Sour, or Metallic Tastes
Post Nasal Drainage
White Nodules on the Tonsils
Brushing and Dental Flossing the Teeth Makes no Difference
A Loss of Self Confidence and Self Esteem

How can bad breath be treated?

As bad breath is almost always caused by a problem in the mouth, it is helpful to visit a dentist. Do not try to mask the odor before the visit – it needs to be as typical as possible.

If there is any dental treatment required to eliminate disease or avoid food stagnation areas, this will be carried out. If no oral cause can be identified by the dentist, it may be necessary to attend a clinic that specialises in breath odors, or to visit other health professionals.

Home Care

Use proper dental hygiene (especially flossing), and remember that mouthwashes are not effective in treating the underlying problem. Fresh parsley or a strong mint are often effective ways to fight temporary bad breath. Avoid smoking. Otherwise, follow prescribed therapy to treat the underlying cause.

Prevention

Bad breath caused by dental problems can be prevented easily with proper home and professional care. This means:

* Brushing your teeth, tongue and gums after meals
* Flossing daily
* Rinsing with a mouthwash approved by the American Dental Association (ADA)
* Visit your dentist regularly and have your teeth professionally cleaned as required.

Bad Breath Treatment

More than ever before, if you have ongoing bad breath, you need to seriously child bad breath Bad Breath Treatment, bad breath odorconsider how to banish your bad breath. Bad breath can be easily treated child bad breathusually, but sometimes bad breath conditions and the need to banish bad breath is because of health issues that may be serious.

Feel Great Around Others: Those we associate closely with on an ongoing basis will respect us more if we have a pleasant breath and our teeth are nice and bright as they should be. You will also be more confident with others knowing you do not have to think anymore about how you can banish your bad breath.

Personal Experiences: In the past I was an employee of a large corporation, and I worked with someone who had a very smelly breath most of the time. Other employees also had to work in quite close contact with this employee that didn’t know he had a oral problem. Of course we all did our best to maintain our distance from him as much as possible.

After about two weeks of his employment with us, one of my fellow employees went up to him and told him he had bad breath. Of course the employee felt insulted. A number of us spoke up and said to him, “You do have bad breath, and it is very unpleasant working with you.” The employee resisted admitting there was a problem.

To get the situation resolved, the supervisor said to the fellow who needed to banish his bad breath, “If you want to continue working here, you will need to find a treatment for your smelly breath.” The reason why the fellow had this problem was simply because he was always eating foods like onions and garlic. Needless to say he found a way to banish his bad breath.

General Causes: You may just have temporary bad breath and so you may not have the need or desire for treatment. The foods you eat… such as garlic, onions, and certain spices, can cause an unpleasant breath temporarily. Bad breath can be a result of oral problems like periodontal disease and tarter build-up on your teeth.

Serious Causes: Persistent smelly breath or Halitosis can be a precursor to more serious oral and general overall health problems. The same germs and plaque that builds up in your arteries and heart, is also found in gum swelling and tooth decay.

Your smelly breath may be caused because of a medical condition called Halitosis. A dentist may send a patient with Halitosis to a physician to deal with a bodily cause.

Ketones are unpleasant smelling compounds that are excreted through urine, perspiration, and through exhaled breath as well. Ketones build up in blood to levels that result in halitosis if a person has diabetes, has been starving, or has inadequate carbohydrate intake. These are very good reasons to banish bad breath from your life.

Steps To A Fresher Smelling Breath: If your bad breath is not health related, you can usually treat it by simple lifestyle changes. Proper oral hygiene is the first step to take if you want a more pleasant smelling breath. If your teeth need serious attention, visit your dentist and get a cleaning done.

Brushing your teeth, gums, and tongue well after every meal and flossing your teeth is of course important for obvious health reasons. Brushing and flossing removes bacteria and germs from your mouth. Also you can prevent plaque build up on your teeth by brushing regularly.
